How durable are your badge reels?
Our badge reels are designed for everyday wear and frequent badge scans. They are sturdy but not indestructible: like any accessory with moving parts, the cord and clip can wear out over time, especially with heavy badges or constant pulling. Letting the cord retract slowly instead of snapping back helps it last longer.
How should I clean and disinfect my badge reel?
Wipe the reel with a soft cloth. A quick wipe with a commonly available disinfectant wipe is a practical way to clean the surface during daily use. Avoid soaking the reel or using harsh solvents, and let it dry fully before retracting the cord.
What is the difference between the clip types?
- Alligator clip: a spring-loaded clip with teeth that pinches open and grips fabric, such as a pocket, lapel, or collar.
- Spring clip: a curved metal clip that slides over a pocket or belt edge and holds the reel in place.
- Belt clip: a flat clip that slides over a belt, pocket, or waistband for a secure, low-profile hold.
The best choice depends on where you prefer to attach your reel and how often you take it on and off.
Can I wear my badge reel at work? (Hospital and workplace policies)
Many hospitals, clinics, and other workplaces have their own policies about badge accessories and how ID badges are worn. Check with your employer or facility before wearing a badge reel on shift. Our reels are not certified or approved to meet any specific facility policy.
How do I care for a liquid-filled badge reel?
Liquid-filled reels are decorative and benefit from a little extra care. Keep them out of prolonged direct sunlight and away from extreme heat, do not puncture or freeze them, and avoid submerging them in liquid. If a liquid-filled reel leaks or becomes cloudy, stop using it and contact us.

Can I move my design to another badge reel?
Yes! Our decorative toppers are removable, so if the reel mechanism wears out, you can transfer your favorite design to another reel. To remove the topper, hold the design in one hand and the reel base in the other. Gently twist in either direction to loosen the heavy-duty tape until the pieces separate. Avoid pulling straight apart or bending the design. Use fresh heavy-duty mounting tape to securely attach the topper to your replacement reel.
